What is Crowdstrike?
Crowdstrike is an industry leading cybersecurity platform that seeks to combine software, data, and artificial intelligence into one installable agent. Their collection of services help to protect data locally and in the cloud. Through automation, the system monitors access and protects by continually monitoring, updating, and refining security measures. Crowdstrike is arguably one of the largest of these DSPMs (Data Security Posture Management) being utilized by companies like Microsoft, large banking institutions, and even air lines.
So What Happened?
A single content update for Windows hosts1 contained a defect that took down those systems. The symptoms of the update were those systems presenting the “Blue Screen of Death”2. This caused many of these systems globally to fail. The results were delays in many logistic systems like air traffic, and shipping all the way down to users unable to log into Xbox Live. It should be noted that this is not the fault of Windows but of the Crowdstrike Windows host on those systems.
Are Absolute Customers Affected?
Absolute does not utilize Crowdstrike for cybersecurity so systems we manage are not affected. However, downline services might be affected. This means that if software you utilize has a cloud based component that utilizes something like AWS (Amazon Web Services) or Windows Azure,3 then you may experience slowness or failure of those services. If you have questions or are experiencing an outage of a service, please reach out to us at our support email.
